New immigration system: what you need to know​

The UK is introducing a points-based immigration system from 2021.

​On 28 January 2020 the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) published its report to the Home Secretary on a points-based immigration system. The government is currently considering the report’s recommendations before setting out further details on the UK’s future immigration system.

There will be no change to the rights and status of EU citizens currently living in the UK until 30 June 2021. EU citizens and their families can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK.
